Frying my Eyeballs

Everyone is doing it. Lasik eye surgery. For nineteen years I've been wearing glasses. When I was a kid, I got to wear the 'durable' eyeglasses. In high school I had glasses like Napoleon Dynamite. You know *ahem* the fashionable ones. Hey, I call myself a geek, so it ain't no biggie.

Well, I decided that I want to be glasses- and contact lens-free. I'm getting the Wavefront LASIK procedure. Basically, they remove corneal tissue with a laser. The vast majority of patients can see 20/20 or better. My pre-surgery evaluation is April 13. If my eyes don't have holes burned in them after the procedure, then I'll write more on here!

I Live a Rough Life

It’s hard being me. Life hasn’t been the same since moving to California from Chicago. I ONLY get non-payday Fridays off from work. I’m forced to go scuba diving around the Channel Islands every month, as well as cave kayaking. And gosh, don’t even get me started on the constant warm and sunny weather here in SoCal! And why do I have to live a half-mile from the ocean?

Okay, okay… I’m being facetious. I can't help thinking that I’m living the
good life. Things are pretty sweet. I have an interesting job, live in an outdoor-lover’s paradise, and I have such a sweetie for a boyfriend. There are so many things for me to be thankful about. I still miss Chicago and my fam/friends, but I’m doin’ aight.

Where does Chris live?

I live in a city called Oxnard. Great name, I know. It has a fancy, upscale ring to it, doesn’t it? Name aside, it’s a decent place. Housing is expensive as anywhere else in coastal California, but it feels almost worth the price (er, not really). There are mountains and forests surrounding me, great for biking or night hiking (or getting mauled by mountain lions). I’m far enough from LA to not experience the traffic or pretension, yet close enough to be able to experience the good things about a world-class metropolis. But someone forgot to give Oxnard a social scene (especially for gay guys!) Two gay bars in the entire county? Puleeez. I’m not a huge bar person, but I do need to meet friends somehow. For the time being, I’m content living here, but quite often I think about transferring elsewhere.
