Why Macs?

09 Aug 2005, Update: Apple's newly redesigned switch campaign website describes how easy Macs really are, "Simply take a Mac out of its box, plug it in and start surfing, working, or rocking. Too good to be true? No, the Mac is exactly that good."

To anyone who knows me at all, it's no secret what my obsession is. Is it cars? money? fame? Nope, nope, and nope. I love Macs. Try to explain my fanaticism to someone who's never used one before, and they just don't get it. Sure, almost everyone's used a Mac in the 80's, and wound up with a Windows PC somehow or another. You must give a modern Mac a decent chance, and I'm fairly confident you'll agree with me that they are truly beautiful machines with unparalleled ease of use and style.

Apple's products are elegantly designed and simply work. When one company designs both the hardware and the software, the end product works so well. Apple's iLife suite of programs (iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and Garageband) supply all the tools you need to create something spectacular. They work together seamlessly to help you churn out magical things in almost no time.

My Mac gets out of my way and lets me do what I need to do. It doesn't bother me with CPU-hogging pop-up ads or spyware. Plus who's ever heard of a virus on a Mac? The security is top-notch, out of the box.

Contrary to what most people think, there is plenty of software out there for Macs. I've very rarely wanted something that was available for Windows for which I couldn't find an equivalent Mac program. And Macs are not as expensive as most people think. Now you can buy a $499 Mac mini. Apple uses high-quality, state-of-the-art parts in all of its computers. They don't make el-cheapo crapboxes. I challenge you to comparably equip a Dell and an Apple and tell me which one is less expensive. You may be surprised.

It certainly sounds silly, but my computers have personality. There is that 'cool-factor' that my Powerbook has because of its fiber-optic lit keyboard and built-in DVD burning. It has built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, a 17" widescreen, yet when closed, the laptop is 1-inch thin.

Look, I just like my Macs... a lot. Don't mess with me. It won't be pretty.
